Ok... I know that this journal may sound prejudiced, but its something that has been driving me insane...

As I've searched through the "archives" of DeviantArt, I have noticed that people have been drawing characters from TV shows, comics, movies, books, games, and so on in rather disrespectful and inappropiate ways. What I mean specifically is that people are drawing characters that are created, made, and meant to be one sexual orientation and make them the opposite orientation.

Basically, if a character is straight, they think its alright to make them homosexual (or vice versa). Its even worse if it is abundantly clear that the character is only ONE specific orientation. Here are just a few examples I have unfortunately witnessed on this site:

Goku and Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z... They are both straight and have wives... Goku has Chichi, Vegeta has Bulma... They DO NOT love eachother! Last time I checked, Vegeta hated Goku a lot and rarely acts like a true friend towards him unless he has to.

Spider-man and the Green Goblin or other various villians... Ok, please put two and two together: Spider-man is Peter Parker, yes? Peter Parker loves Mary Jane, yes? Mary Jane is a girl and Peter is a guy, yes? So therefore, he must be straight. Not gay.

Batman and other super heroes/villians... If they are striaght in the comics, leave them striaght... If they are gay in the comics, leave them gay... DON'T change them to match your sick and twisted minds...

People from Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy... I'm not sure of the names of specific people, but my girl friend is a huge fan of the games and she tells me who is or isn't really striaght/gay.

As much as I hate to protect these characters, the Naruto gang probably is not really represented with respect either. I have seen characters that I have been told and personally believe are not one orientation, but are shown as it anyways.

These are just a few examples of the poorly and rudely represented characters. The people who made the characters INTENDED to make them a certain orientation and it shows the people who made the characters NO respect to take their characters and completely change them to what you (the people guilty of the "crime") want them to be. If you don't like the characters, then make fun of them as you will, but don't draw them as complete lies. And I know that these characters are often not real people, but imagine how they would feel... What if we all decided to draw YOU (the people guilty of the "crime") as the opposite sexual orientation? How would that make you feel? I'm sure you'd be offended because it was a lie and I am positive it would insult you.

Here is some advice for those of you who are guilty: If you want to see "action" of people with the same sexual orientation as you for your "fantasies", rent a porno, watch actual characters that are actually your sexual orientation, or simply CREATE YOUR OWN characters and make them as you want them. Don't change characters that already exsist to what you want just because you want it that way; after all, you can't change a person in real life like that. Its just rude, disrespectful, and inappropiate.

Thanks, and I am sorry if this offends anyone. I just get tired of disrespect towards a person's creation by changing it in such a manner. You may all do as you wish (after all, it is your right and your choice), but I (and many other people) would like it if you please, please, please, just stop disrespecting other people's creations? I find it sort of offensive...


P.S. I realize that I had no examples of characters who are gay that are depicted incorrectly as straight. This is NOT because I have a problem with homosexual people at all. It is simply because I have not and have no desire to search this site for such images. Plus, I don't really know any gay characters from memory because I have no interest in it or care much for it. I'm sure there are homosexual characters that you may know of and so on and discovered the same "crime" has happened to them...
